Gone with the wind in Mykonos!

Αρχές Μαίου έλαβα μήνυμα από μια πολύ καλή μου φίλη από το μεταπτυχιακό, η οποία ζει στη Ζυρίχη. Μου είπε ότι θέλει να έρθει Ελλάδα και να πάμε και σε ένα νησί για ολιγοήμερες διακοπές. Δεδομένου ότι παρέα μου έχει σπίτι εκεί και έχω ανοικτή πρόσκληση, σκέφτηκα αμέσως αυτόν τον προορισμό! Οι παραλίες της Μυκόνου και τα σοκάκια της είναι από τα ομορφότερα που έχω δει ποτέ και ήμουν σίγουρη ότι η Margot θα το ευχαριστηθεί. Έτσι, πήγαμε το τριήμερο του Αγίου Πνεύματος. Πήρα και μια μέρα άδεια και έτοιμη για το νησί των ανέμων!
Φτάσαμε Σάββατο μεσημέρι και η πρώτη απόδραση στην παραλία ‘Καλό Λιβάδι’ ήταν κάπως.. πώς να το πω…έντονη. Μουσική διαπασόν, οι κοπέλες με κραγιόν και αναμονή για να πάρεις έναν καφέ μισή ώρα το λιγότερο! Η φίλη μου έκανε το λάθος να εκφράσει την πείνα της και μου ζήτησε να της παραγγείλλω (μιας που περίμενα τόση ώρα στην ουρά) κ ένα σάντουιτς (τα έβλεπε να πηγαινοέρχονται και της άνοιξε η όρεξη). Ο barman όμως με ενημέρωσε ότι τα σνακς τα σερβίρουν μόνο σε όσους κάθονται στις ξαπλώστρες. Βεβαίως. Μα κι εμείς, δεν ξέραμε, δεν ρωτούσαμε;! Οπότε το Solymar Beach bar απορρίφθηκε από εμάς πλήρως! Και αυτό, γιατί το τόσο ‘στημένο’ στοιχείο και το προσκύνημα στο φαίνεσθαι είναι τελείως εκτός από εμάς. Και από όλους τους φυσιολογικούς ανθρώπους φαντάζομαι! Πώς να ηρεμήσεις και να χαλαρώσεις όταν ο κόσμος είναι τόσος που να μη μπορείς να περπατήσεις, οι γυναίκες κάνουν πασαρέλα με το make up βραδινής εξόδου και πρέπει να έχεις κάνεις κράτηση σε ξαπλώστρα γιατί αλλιώς πλησιάζει ο ‘υπεύθυνος’ καλωδιωμένος και σε απομακρύνει ευγενικά. Και αναρωτιέσαι “στην παραλία ήρθα ή σε club του Λονδίνου”;
Αυτό, όμως, είναι η μια πλευρά της Μυκόνου. Η άλλη πλευρά είναι υπέροχη! Αρκεί να ξέρεις να κινηθείς! Δεν θα πας στις πολυσύχναστες παραλίες και στα ‘in’ μπαράκια. Να πας στην Ελιά και στην Παράγκα. Ήρεμες παραλίες, με νορμάλ κόσμο και χαλαρή μουσική. Εκεί νιώσαμε ότι χαλαρώνουμε!
Φάγαμε πρωινό στο Σινε Μαντώ στη Χώρα. Στον υπέροχο καταπράσινο κήπο! Λίγος κόσμος, ντόπιοι για την ακρίβεια, και ηρεμία! Ήπιαμε καφέ και φάγαμε ρυζόγαλο στο Ντεκότο στην Άνω Μερά. Φάγαμε (ναι, ήταν συχνή μας δραστηριότητα) στο ταβερνάκι Fisherman στην πλατεία της Άνω Μεράς και στο Απάγκειο (για φρέσκο ψάρι) στον Ορνό.
Την Δευτέρα του Αγίου Πνεύματος το νησί άδειασε. Εμείς πήγαμε το πρωί θάλασσα και το απόγευμα στη Χώρα για βόλτες. Απολαύσαμε το μαγευτικό ηλιοβασίλεμα από την εκκλησία Παραπορτιανή, στο δρόμο πριν τη Μικρή Βενετία και μετά περιπλανηθήκαμε στα σοκάκια. Ανακαλύψαμε μικρά μαγαζάκια και μου έκανε εντύπωση μια δυναμική γιαγιά, η οποία διατηρεί μαγαζί με πλεκτά είδη! Πλέκει πανέμορφα τσαντάκια και από ότι έμαθα μετά από ντόπιους, η γιαγιά αυτή είναι διάσημη στη Μύκονο και το μαγαζί της αποτελεί σταθμό για τους τουρίστες! Ε, πώς να μην είναι;! Είναι αυθεντική!
Άλλο ένα μαγαζί-θησαυρός είναι το ‘Αστερία’ με υπέροχα ψηφιδωτά! Η Ειρήνη και η Καταλίνα δημιουργούν ψηφιδωτά με τα χεράκια τους και αν θέλεις να κάνεις μια καλή αγορά-ενθύμιο, να τα προτιμήσεις! Η Καταλίνα μου είπε ότι για ένα μικρό σχετικά ψηφιδωτό, χρειάζεται συνήθως 4-5 ημέρες συνεχούς δουλειάς!
Αν θέλεις να πιεις ένα ποτάκι μακριά από την πολυκοσμία να πας σε αυτό που θα δεις και παρακάτω σε φωτογραφία (δεν θυμάμαι όνομα!), είναι απέναντι από την Παραπορτιανή!
Εδώ θα σταματήσω να μιλάω και θα αφήσω τις εικόνες να μιλήσουν από μόνες τους! Το συμπέρασμα είναι ότι η Μύκονος είναι από τα ομορφότερα νησιά της Ελλάδος, απλά πρέπει να το επισκεφτείς σε ήρεμη περίοδο! Οι παραλίεςτης, τα σοκάκια της… ξεχωρίζουν μακράν!

It was the beginning of May when I received an email from a very good friend who lives in Zurich. She wanted to come to Greece and visit an island for a few days. Since some good friends of mine have a house in Mykonos, I immediately thought that this option was the best! The beaches of Mykonos and its alleys are sooo beautiful! I was sure that Margot is going to enjoy her time! So, during the long weekend of the bank holiday, we went to Mykonos, the island of the winds, as they call it!

We arrived on Saturday and our first excursion was at the beach ‘Kalo Livadi’. I would say that our time there was kind of intense. The music at the beach bar was extremely loud, the girls were wearing evening make up and in order to get a coffee from the bar you should wait at least half an hour! My friend was hungry so when she saw some delicious sandwiches going back and forth she asked me to get her one from the bar. When I finally reached the bar they informed me that they serve snacks only to the people at the sunbeds! Where, ofcourse, you had to make a reservation for them. Otherwise, a guy with a microphone in his ear would approach you and tell you that you are not at the list! And you wonder ‘did I come to the beach or to the most popular club in London’? So, Solymar Beach Bar was rejected from us. We couldn’t stand the fakeness of everything there! How could anyone relax under these circumstances? I am sure, though, that there are other spots at ‘Kalo Livadi’ that there are certainly more quiet and normal!

Though, this is one aspect of Mykonos. And some people prefer that. Choices are free, what can you say? The other aspect of the island is unique! You just have to know where to go and maybe wander around! You should visit ‘Elia’ and ‘Paraga’ beach. People there are relaxed and the music coming from the beach bars is lounge and at the perfect volume!

We had a delicious breakfast at Cine Manto, in the heart of Mykonos! This is the only cinema of the island and they serve breakfast at a beautiful garden! We had coffee and rice pudding at the super cute Dekoto café in Ano Mera. We also had dinner at the tavern Fisherman again in Ano Mera, at the main square and for fresh fish we went to ‘Apagio’ at Ornos. For drinks we chose the small bar opposite Paraportiani church. It is pretty, near the sea and away from the crowd!

The day of the bank holiday in Greece the island stopped to be that crowded and got deep breaths! After the beach we went to Chora, the centre. We enjoyed the magic of the sunset from Paraportiani church, just before Little Venice. Then, we walked around the alleys and we found treasure shops! Firstly, there is a shop with knitted purses and bags made by a dynamic old lady! After my visit I learnt that the shop of the lady is pretty popular and many tourists visit her!

One more great shop is called ‘Asteria’ . Irene and Katalina make unique art of mosaic! Katalina told me that in order to make a small piece of mosaic she needs 4-5 days working nonstop! So, if you want to buy something special you know where to go!

I think it is time for me to shop talking and let the pictures talk by themselves! The conclusion is that Mykonos is one of the most beautiful islands of Greece, but you have to visit it during a calm period. Unless you want to party and get lost in the crowd! The island fulfills both choices!
